New-York, December 28.
  On Thursday arrived at an anchor in the East-River, that
superb Frigate, named the South Carolina, prize to his
Majesty's Ships, Diomede, Quebec, and Africa---To the
account given in our last we have to add, that she was to
call at Charlestown, and there receive Commodore Gillon on
board; that being imperfectly copperd by the Rebels at
Philadelphia, it was judged expedient to alter her
destination, and bring her round to New-York, and complete
her sheathing, only thirteen feet of which having been as
yet performed.
From dejected Jonathan, a Prisoner taken in the South
Carolina, to his Brother Ned at Philadelphia.
  My dear Brother Ned, we are knock'd o' the head,
  No more let America boast;
  We may all go to bed, and that's enough said,
  For the South Carolina we've lost.

  Diomede, off New-York,
  25th December, 1782.
